Mr. Munkirs was born March 4, 1915, in Excelsior Springs, MO, and lived most of his life in Excelsior Springs. He had worked at McCleary Hospital in Excelsior Springs and at the Elms Hotel as a bellman for over 40 years. He had also worked at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL, before moving to Lathrop 18 years ago to live with his daughter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Excelsior Springs, and was an Army veteran of WWII.

He was united in marriage to Edrie Irene Hughs in 1946; she preceded him in death in 1992. She also loved gardening and canning her fruits and vegetables for her family and friends, all of whom loved her dearly and knew that she loved them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Peterson Jr. in 1991, and one son, Larry Peterson in 1958.
